‘Hello’ video: Adele debuts dramatic ballad, ‘To Be Loved’

Heaven forbid if you don’t want someone to love you. That’s what Adele sings on her latest single “To Be Loved,” which was released today.

The track is a piano ballad with a catchy beat that calls back to the soul-baring first single “Hello,” whose success helped put her on the global stage.

The album’s chorus could make some listeners blush: “Took a million years to get where I am / I’m just trying to be loved / I’m just trying to be loved / No way / Cause I’m not perfect / But I really try / I really try / But nothing seems to work / Nothing’s ever gonna work / It’s like I’m never gonna be loved / It’s like I’m never gonna be loved.”

That’s before she sings about her grief, when she sings about not knowing what to say or how to behave when a person isn’t showing interest: “It’s like I’m never gonna be loved.”

Lyrics from the song:

I’m just trying to be loved / I’m just trying to be loved / Took a million years to get where I am / I’m just trying to be loved / I’m just trying to be loved / I’m just trying to be loved / I’m just trying to be loved / I’m just trying to be loved / I’m just trying to be loved

And:

And I don’t know how to say what I mean / And I don’t know how to walk when I’m losing control / Oh, my head hurts like it’s on fire / And oh, my heart hurts

I hope the next song “Love” will also be effective at making people fall in love and forget their shame. We are so ready to be loved.
