Edmonton Oilers 2, Winnipeg Jets 1 (SO)

EDMONTON, AB – Leon Draisaitl scored in the third period and Cam Talbot made 29 saves to lead the Edmonton Oilers over the Winnipeg Jets 2-1 in a shootout on Thursday night.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Draisaitl netted shootout goals for the Oilers (22-23-7), who have won two straight.

Paul Stastny and Nikolaj Ehlers scored for the Jets (29-17-5), who have lost five of six. Connor Hellebuyck stopped 29 shots.

Edmonton got on the board first midway through the second period when Drake Caggiula made a solid pass from the side of the net for Draisaitl, who was able to bury a backhand to make it 1-0.

The Jets tied it up late in the period when Stastny’s wrist shot got past Talbot’s glove side.

Winnipeg had a wide-open net early in the third period but Talbot stopped Mark Scheifele’s shot with his right pad.

The Oilers went ahead late in the third period when Draisaitl used a spinning wrist shot to beat Hellebuyck’s blocker side.

With both teams short-handed in overtime, Ehlers had a wide-open net late but simply put the puck over the net.

Talbot finished the game with 29 saves for Edmonton.

The Jets host Carolina on Saturday while the Oilers hit the road for a matchup with Colorado.
