Understanding the Beauty Industry and MCS – An Article by Dr. Michael Rothman

Dr. Michael E. Rothman, New Jersey’s leading holistic physician, has encountered thousands of people with multiple chemical sensitivities (MCS), often caused by the massive number of synthetic chemicals found in our cosmetics and personal care products.

April 12, 2017 ( datsyn.com) – Spring Lake, NJ – Even the products labeled “herbal” or “natural” contain chemicals that compromise our immune systems and can make us ill. In his latest article, Natural Beauty: Beauty Care for the Sensitive Individual, Dr. Rothman writes about these products and offers ways to avoid harmful chemicals and the reactions they cause.

Using a holistic approach, Dr. Rothman tells readers the story of a client whose MCS was controlled by attention to the products in her home, including those she put on her body.

“MCS is not a disease,” Dr. Rothman writes. “Rather, MCS is a symptom of internal dysregulation caused by her over-taxed immune system, over-stimulated nervous system, and burnt-out hormonal system. If you have a sensitivity to chemicals, it means your defenses are weak. Various stressors have overwhelmed the defense mechanisms in your body and you cannot handle any more stress, including the stress of chemical exposures.”

In his brief article, Dr. Rothman explains the interplay between the chemicals we are exposed to and the myriad of chemicals that contact our skin every single day. For many of us, we are fine and our immune systems can counteract any negative effects. For others, those who are sensitive to these chemicals, the effects can range from mildly annoying to devastating, to deadly.

Dr. Rothman goes on to instruct readers about how they can reduce the effects of these chemicals in their lives. He says, in part, “The first (and most important) steps are to improve health habits that will fortify your immune, neurological and hormonal health: Spend time outdoors exposed to sunlight and fresh air, walk barefoot on the earth, and eat a diet filled of organic meats and vegetables, and healthy fats like eggs and coconuts.”
